iSkate Australia ‘Grom’ and ‘Junior’ Skateboarders Dominate ‘Beast of Bondi’ Contest

11 Dec 2017 by Hagan McCreath

Yesterday was the second attempt at the ‘Beast of Bondi’ contest held at Bondi Skatepark. The previous effort had rain interrupt the contest and it was cancelled.

This time round the sun was shining and a cool ocean breeze provided perfect conditions for all the skaters.

The ‘Grom’ division was first up with a solid turnout of skaters competing for the top prize. In the end iSkate Australia shredder and Greenhills regular Laurie Bland won the contest with iSkate team mate Sam Russell (also a Greenhills skater) close at his heels in second. Special mention to Jackson Donnini for a solid effort and great result in best trick. Also, proud to see the the Hazelton Brothers in full force and young Harvey giving it his best with fierce determination.

The ‘Junior’ Division was hotly contested as the top three places earned a ‘golden ticket’ to the Bowl A Rama contest in 2018!

iSkate Australia skater and Mona Vale Vert coach, Jed Ragen suffered a seperated shoulder in practise earlier in the week but was able to turn on the ‘Beast Mode’ and win the contest! iSkate Australia team mate Dylan Donnini placed second with an incredible display of technical talent and unmatched lines in the Bondi Bowl. Both Jed and Dylan will be facing off with the best Junior skateboarders in the world at Bowl A Rama 2018!

Newly appointed team member Jett Dehaan took the big step up to the Junior Division and made finals with a very respectable 5th place. Props to Ben Hennessey for a solid effort just missing the finals in 7th place.

Finally there were a few injuries in the lead up to this event. Our well wishes go out to Kai Burke who broke his tibia and Amar Hadid who broke her humerus.

Kieran Woolley had a small knock to the head and wisely opted to sit out of the finals as he is the current Junior Australian Bowl Champion his place in Bowl A Rama is set and ready to go!

Thank you to the whole team for your continued commitment to the iSkate Australia program and for the high level of respect you earn not only for your ability levels but for the great people you are! Keep working hard💪!!!
